You may have heard that drinking a glass of wine every day can actually be good for you but do you know exactly why this is?  Following are a few of the ways that this enjoyable practice can benefit your health.  Once you know some of the reasons why drinking a glass of wine every day is good for you then you will be sure to do it.

Phytochemicals

The phytochemicals present in wine include flavanoids and resveratrol and are antioxidants.  Antioxidants, if you don’t know, protect the body from free radicals.  Free radicals are substances in your body that basically go around damaging cells.  Antioxidants neutralize free radicals so that they do not damage the cells of your body.

So what kind of damage can free radicals cause?  First, they can weaken cells leaving them more vulnerable to any number of serious health conditions.  Second, the damage that they cause contributes to the aging process.  When free radicals damage your cells unchecked then you age more quickly than if they never get the chance to do damage.  In addition to this, the phytochemicals may lower your chance of getting certain cancers and may slow the advancement of conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Resveratrol

Remember resveratrol from the last section?  Well, it can do more than just act as an antioxidant.  Resveratrol has been shown to prevent blood clotting and the formation of plaque in arteries.  It does this by changing your lipid profiles as well as your plasma viscosity.  These factors along with the potential of the resveratrol to help the body make anti-thrombotic agents that have the potential to improve your cardiovascular health and may even decrease your chances of having coronary heart disease.

Good Cholesterol

Drinking a glass of wine every day has been shown to increase the good kind of cholesterol known as HDL.  Why is this important?  Increased amounts of HDL work to keep your arteries from getting clogged.  This alone is a good reason for you to make a glass of wine a regular habit.

Weight And Waist Control

A glass of wine every day has been shown by some studies to be more beneficial for your weight than only having a glass of wine every once in a while.  If you take up this daily ritual then you are likely to have a lower body mass.  You will also win out if you choose wine over liquor.  You are likely to have a smaller waist if you make this selection.

Protect Your Body

Wine can even help protect you from food poisoning and certain types of bacteria.  And it can do this with as little as one glass a day.
